[2:03] Other properties, that's actually what this show is about, is about hope for a better future. Yeah. And then finally, the last one, Jeff. Is how to be better human beings to one another. Oh, I don't know anything about that.
[2:16] Jeff's like, be better human being. What's that? Why even be a human being? Right? Oh, my gosh. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Now, that being said, hey, everybody, if this is your first time through the series, be warned because this is not Jeff and mine's first time through the series. We are not holding anything back. We are free to talk about anything from any point in the timeline, anywhere in the franchise, whether it's Babylon 5, Crusade, books, novels, comic books, whatever. We can talk about things that have been said at conventions, private conversations, things written down in documentaries.
[2:53] It's all fair game for Jeff and I to talk about. So if this is your first time, please be aware this is your one and only spoiler warning. My warning is sincere. Ignore it at your own peril. This week, Brent, we're watching an episode called Between the Darkness and the Light. When we watched this for the first time, we played a game where we would predict what the next episode was going to be about based on the title alone. Frankly, my prediction was pretty lame. I was just like, hey, this is going to be all the stuff that was happening during the interrogation. Yeah. Ivanova going and freeing colonies. That's going to be the whole episode. That makes sense. It does make sense. Yes. It's what happened with two towers, right? Like we get Fellowship of the Ring. That's all together. And then you get into two towers and it splits. Like here's what's going on in this part. And then we're going to backtrack and start over. And here's what's going on on this other side over here. Exactly. Cover all the stuff that was there. What did you predict for this one? I said that we might not even see Sheridan in this next episode, but it's the rescue attempt. Okay. That's where we are. Last week I said should have been the redemption of Michael Garibaldi. I about said Gambini.
[4:04] Because why not? Well, I'm watching my cousin Vinny, you know. No, it was the redemption of Michael Garibaldi. Not at all what it was about, but this one would be the retrieval of John Sheridan. There you go. There you go. What do you say? we do a little look back in the Wayback Machine and see some of the things we thought about it the first time around. I think we should do that.
[4:24] Previously, on Babylon 5 for the first time, between the darkness and the light. This gaslighting story, they're trying to get him to believe the story that they've concocted about him. They're just going to keep on insisting that this was history until he believes it. I was impressed with how easily he still fought back. Even drugged up, Sherry was like, no, that didn't happen. And so they added more drugs. I even loved that, where they just told him exactly what's going to happen. Here, we're going to put this in his drink. It'll break him. Here, would you like some more coffee? Oh, yeah, thanks. You and I have given Franklin a hard time over the course of this series. Yeah. The way that Franklin insisted on hearing Garibaldi's side of the story. One of the best Franklin moments I've seen in this entire series. Leta was having a lot of trouble getting through these blocks of Garibaldi. But I thought Leta was, like, super charged. I think she had trouble getting through them because she didn't want to hurt Garibaldi. They go in, they get Sheridan. He's high as a kite. Michael, I was going to kick your butt for something, but I don't remember.
[5:37] We've got Londo and Jakar. I get what they did. I'm not okay with it, though. The guiding principle that Sheridan has had through this whole thing, and I feel like he's been crystal clear about, is this is an Earth thing. But the minute some alien fleet pops through to help with the battle, everything that propaganda machine has been saying gets confirmed. The sentiment is great, but the execution, I think, is super contrary to what Sheridan has been trying to build here. So they're going to go take on these new destroyers. God sent me. Everything we've known about Ivanova built to that line. I didn't think that she was hurt that. I mean, I knew she was hurt. I didn't think it was going to go this far. My exact line was, so help me if she's leaving the show. Because I'm not okay with this. No. I mean, we still have three more episodes. Exactly. But I'm like, wait a minute. No, no, no. This is not okay. I tell you, between now and watching this next episode, this is all I'm thinking about is what's going to happen to Ivanova. I think that next week we're going to get the redemption of Dr. Franklin. And he's going to hook himself up to the quality of mercy machine. He's going to save Ivanova.
[6:54] That was great to land. That was so awesome. I am not mentally or emotionally prepared for this episode. Brent. I for, I didn't. I, Ivana was leaving the show. She was, I mean, now we, we, we know what was going on in the real world and things would happen later and all that sort of stuff. And, and, but I, I want to know what you guys out there thought who were with us during the first time when I was like, so help me if Ivana was leaving the show. Right. Cause three episodes later, she's out.
[7:23] I would just, I would love to know what your guys, your guys's reaction to that was. Cause I'm still not okay with her, her leaving the show. Um, I am, I gotta tell you though, I am highly interested in rewatching season five with Lockley coming in, seeing Lockley through the crusade eyes. Yeah. Knowing her that much better than we did the first time around. Yeah. You know? Um, and yeah. And Nia points out, like, I get it. this was written before, uh what it wasn't written before she was leaving they were all leaving because the show was done we were wrapping all that up right you know but i she was still intended to live i think this is actually leading to marcus's death yeah also i forgot that i used to have that cup and i really want that cup back i don't know where that cup is which cup that orange that orange bucko bruce cup oh yeah that i was drinking out of i don't know where that cup is there anymore oh i love that cup it's a great cup, i'm just stuck in this moment where i'm remembering last week where i'm like oh i love this episode it's so much fun and i remember it fond excuse me while i eat those words.
[8:34] There is some fun in this episode i'm looking forward to seeing that so brent what do you say we dive in no i think we just meander around here for a while i would kind of like to not watch this if i'm being honest like no we're gonna watch this episode i did i, yeah this is the one where ivanova gets a face full of uh face full of destroyer starship right yeah yeah, I thought that was next week. Honestly, I did too. I did too. Yeah.
[9:04] Also call it. Good job, Jeff. Good job. Well, let's do the thing. Let's get into this episode. All right. So we're going to literally get into the episode. We're going to bring it up and we're going to watch it. Brent and I will comment as we're watching it. We will be in the episode. Actually, we'll actually be in the episode. You look Mac and Bo are in the background. That's actually Jeff and Brent. Watch it. That was when we saw our SAG cards. It was great. You'll see us in the background. We're going to edit that up for YouTube, like a reaction style video, all the stuff there. The full and unedited version is going to be posted on our Patreon page at patreon.com slash bad nerds. And for audio podcasters out there, no worries. You're going to hear all of it. We're not leaving you guys out. We haven't forgotten. So with that, Jeff, let's dive into the episode. Let's go. Accessing file. It's great to have you back, Captain. Thanks. It's good to be back. Yeah, his hair is really trying to bite, isn't it? It is. I don't know if I, it's shocking to me. So, you ever told me my contact? Yes, your contact.
